Patient Communication

Solution to Overcome Patient Resistance to Paying At Time of Service

In this episode, Gary and Naren dive into a common issue dental practices face – the challenge of collecting payment at the time of service. They discuss how this problem is exacerbated when dealing with insurance companies that send reimbursement checks directly to patients, making it difficult for dental practices to obtain payment.

To address this issue, Gary and Naren recommend reducing reliance on PPO plans and providing practical tips on communicating the need for patients to pay upfront. They also advise informing patients that insurance companies like Delta Dental will send the check directly to them. They suggest that patients contact their benefits supervisor if they are still waiting to receive the reimbursement within two weeks.

Although they recognize that patients may only sometimes be enthusiastic about paying upfront, Gary and Naren emphasize the importance of doing so to improve cash flow and reduce dependence on PPO plans.
